WHAT TO EXPECT WITH YOUR EYE CARE PROFESSIONAL
So, you’re ready for contact lenses. Nervous? Don’t be. Once you’ve found an Eye Care Professional, here’s what to expect from your first appointment to your annual checkups.
FIRST CONTACTS APPOINTMENT
As contact lenses are medical devices, it is mandatory to have an eye examination and consultation by a qualified optometrist before contact lens can be prescribed.
A first fitting with a thorough eye examination could take a while, so let your Eye Care Professional know you’re coming in for your first contact lens fitting when making your appointment.
YOUR FIRST FIT
At the store, your Eye Care Professional will review your eye health and check your vision. The size and shape of your eye will be measured so that your lenses fit just right. Other tests could include checking for UV damage, and dry eyes.
Upon understanding your lifestyle and vision correction needs, your Eye Care Professional will recommend which lenses best suit you.
Usually you’ll be given trial lenses to start. Your Eye Care Professional will show you how to put in and take out the lenses, as well as how to care for them. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask your Eye Care Professional!
FOLLOW-UP VISIT
After about a week of getting used to your contacts lenses, you’ll return for a follow-up visit. In the unlikely event that something isn’t right, tell your Eye Care Professional right away. If you’re loving your lenses, you usually can take home a supply that day.
REGULAR CHECKUPS
For the best experience with your lenses, make sure you clean and care for your lenses, stick to the wearing schedule your Eye Care Professional gives you, and get a yearly checkup. You want to make sure to get regular checkups since prescriptions can change and you don’t want to be stuck with an old one.
